I am standing on the edge of the world
Eyes closed
toes digging into the cool wet sand
holding on for dear life
arms spread out
ready to take off
like a bird learning to fly for the first time
taking off late at night
to avoid humiliation in case of failure
My white sundress is blowing out behind me
My salty hair sticks to the back of my neck
glued to my skin with humidity and sweat
the sun sinks low into the sky
the deep orange glow illuminating everything it can grasp
like a dying man reaching for his final gasps of air
so that his last words can mean something
I am calm
My thoughts are carried away with the breeze
like my tangly hair flying in the wind
I am all alone
nothing else matters
Damn Michaela, that was awesome!! The imagery is incredible. Wow.
ReplyDeletethis is awesome!! very detailed
ReplyDeleteimagery was great
ReplyDeletei love the images! and how you compare the grasp to that of a dying man, very cool :)
ReplyDeleteyou're perfect
ReplyDeleteReally like these line, we all try to fake super brave, but the reality is always closer to this when we are forging new ground.
ReplyDelete"like a bird learning to fly for the first time

This is a cool line but needs the second half of the comparison developed I think.
"like a dying man reaching for his final gasps of air

Maybe, ex. my heart searches the dangerous expanse of air for possibilities.
This would be great fun to expand, when you take that step off the cliff, what will you gladly leave behind. What/Who will watch from the edge as you soar? And when you are just a speck how will they/you feel?
Open Mic??
